The Mediterranean diet in different age groups

Abstract
Main objective: To determine the influence of age on dietary changes in a population of Almeria. Methodology: cluster sampling, a total of 150 persons, divided in under 40 years old, between 41 and 64 years old and over 65 years old. They were given a validated questionnaire of 14 questions with two possible answers. Main results: 68.7% obtained an optimal adherence, 31.34% of them were over 65 years old. 29.3% obtained a medium adherence, 1.99% of them belong to the oldest age group. 2% obtained a low adhesion, 0% of them were over 65 years old. The age related with the final score of the survey obtained a moderate positive correlation (Pearson correlation 0.000 p<0.05; R=0.514). Final conclusion: The participants obtained a medium-high adherence to the Mediterranean diet. The group of persons under 40 years old gets lower results than the other two groups. Therefore, there is a statistical relationship between age and the final score, indicating that the older they are the higher score they obtain. This fact alerts us that adherence to the Mediterranean diet is being lost generationally.
