Abstract
Use of Internet and social networks by university students. The purpose of this research was to analyze different facets of the use made by university students of social networks on the internet: frequency and purpose, perception of risk or negative consequences of their use, and value by the user of the social relationships made there. The Social Networking Questionnaire on the internet was used for this in a sample of 164 students at the University of Almeria (Spain). The results showed a daily mean of over three hours as the frequency of use of social networks by university students, mainly to contact friends. The negative consequences of the use of social networks were related to misunderstandings and jealousy. Although that frequent use of social networks as a channel for socialization has been shown, the percentage of students who denied the usefulness of this means for improving their social relations was very high.
