Abstract

A technological revolution is taking place in the mining industry, with the incorporation of artificial intelligence, Big Data and digital interconnection of devices to the various industries, a phenomenon also called Industry 4.0. The objective of this research is to propose a risk analysis model for mining contracts, for external service companies. For this, it was necessary to describe the current state of the country’s mining industry, the technologies used and their obsolescence, and what the contract administration function is like nowadays. This is an exploratory-level qualitative investigation. A new instrument or method for obtaining information and analysis is developed so that contract administrators and managers of the mining industry can identify the risk of new technologies in the administrative management of related contracts. During the year 2021, 3 large mining groups in Chile were analyzed, obtaining by formal means primary information from the contracts of each company, to select a case to validate the model. Semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with industry experts, administrators (external) and contract managers (client), and department managers. With this information, it was designed using risk assessment techniques, a risk analysis methodology for current contracts, and also a tool for the analysis of possible technologies to be implemented. Information from specialized sector studies was systematized to define categories of analysis and criteria. This work would allow the future development of advanced analytical techniques, based on the same sequence of analysis.
