Abstract
Pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) has emerged as an innovative therapeutic option for managing degenerative shoulder pain, serving as an alternative to traditional surgical procedures. Shoulder pain is the second most common musculoskeletal condition among adults, with a population prevalence of 15–20%. This condition can impair mobility and functionality, as well as reduce quality of life. Pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) was introduced in 1990 for the treatment of chronic back pain. It is a minimally invasive technique involving the application of high-frequency electrical current pulses near pain-transmitting nerves, thereby inducing neuromodulation of the surrounding nerve tissue. Results. Assessments using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) revealed a significant reduction in pain three months after treatment. The initial mean score was 7.79 points (7.79 ± 0.9), while the final mean score dropped to 3.8 points (3.8 ± 1.2). Discussion and conclusion. The study results demonstrate that applying pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) to the suprascapular nerve led to a significant reduction in pain and a clinically relevant functional improvement three months post-procedure. Finally, we propose extending the follow-up period to 6 and 12 months to evaluate the long-term durability of the technique's analgesic and functional effects, as well as its sustained impact on the quality of life of patients with chronic degenerative shoulder pain.
