Abstract

The main purpose of this research has been to provide normative data for Spanish children from 6 to 12-years old, in the Stroop Color and Word Test. Moreover, we use the Five Digit Test as a non-reading alternative to evaluate the ability to inhibit interferences and prepotent responses in persons without automatic reading abilities. The study sample consisted of 1.032 students from primary schools in Tenerife. Both tests were applied as part of an executive functions evaluation battery. Results are presented for six age groups and are interpreted in the context of inhibition neuropsychological development. We found that there is a critical moment in the inhibition development around 10-year old. The evidences suggested that Five Digit Test is a better option than Stroop to evaluate inhibition in not fluent readers.
