Policies on the use of artificial intelligence
Policies on the use of artificial intelligence
- Objectives and commitment
Through this policy, the Journal of Management & Business Studies (JM&BS) recognises the value of AI tools in research and editorial processes. However, the Journal of Management & Business Studies (JM&BS) is also committed to promoting an ethical, responsible, and transparent use of these technologies, in line with international standards and in accordance with the ethical principles of scientific publications (COPE, 2025). In that order, this policy sets out guidelines on the appropriate use of AI in the production, review, and editing of academic content.
- On the ethical use of IA and its declaration obligation
Authors using AI in any part of their manuscript development must explicitly declare it (SciELO, 2023) in the methodological section or the most relevant section and communicate it to the journal promptly.
The declaration must state:
- a) What AI tools were used.
- b) The stage of the investigation at which the authors applied them.
- c) How it contributed to the development of research.
In this way, the authors promote transparency and strengthen ethical principles in scientific publication.
- Transparency and accountability considerations
Authors are responsible for the data and results generated with AI support.
Transparency in the use of AI enables:
- a) Building confidence in the research process
- b) Facilitate the replication of methodological designs by other researchers.
- c) Improve editorial evaluation
4. Prohibition of authorship of IA
To maintain the integrity of the scientific process, the Journal of Management & Business Studies considers the use of AI as an instrumental tool and states that:
- a) The AI cannot be listed as author or co-author nor appear in the list of bibliographical references
- b) Any contribution made by IA must be clearly identified
- c) Authorship implies ethical, legal, and intellectual responsibilities that technologies cannot assume; therefore, it must be exclusively human.
5. On the use of AI in the review and editing process
5.1 Editorial process
The journal may use AI tools to assist editorial processes in the following cases:
- a) Detection of plagiarism
- b) Metadata analysis
- c) Assessment of language quality
However, these tools do not replace the critical and professional judgement of human editors (editorial review) and reviewers (peer review).
5.2 Review of AI-generated content
Through the use of the TURNITIN tool, editors will verify that articles that include content partially generated by AI:
- a) Meet academic integrity standards,
- b) AI tools used are clearly identified
5.3 Use of AI tools in images, graphs and figures and data generation
The journal does not allow the use of generative AI to create or modify images in scientific articles.
In the case of research whose design or methodology uses AI tools in the generation of figures, graphics, or visual analysis, authors should describe their process in detail in the methodological section or as appropriate.
The generation of data for research development cannot be through AI tools, but must come from a rigorous application of scientific techniques or empirical sources.
- Transparency for readers
Authors must provide relevant information to establish that content generated or assisted by AI:
- a) Do not infringe copyright
- b) Comply with the relevant licensing policies.
- Editorial responsibility of the journal and the authors for the use of AI
The Journal of Management & Business Studies states that:
- The Journal of Management & Business Studies will oversee adherence to this policy and reserve the right to dismiss proposals that fail to meet the established standards and guidelines.
- b) Review AI use claims. Omission of such claims may affect the scientific evaluation of the article
- c) At any stage of the editorial process, you may request additional clarifications prior to acceptance and publication of the article.
