Relationship between screen time and physical activity in adolescents

Abstract
Objective: To determine the relationship between screen time and physical activity in adolescents. Material and method: Through a descriptive correlational study, in a sample of 33 volunteers from schools in the middle school period. The correlation between the level of physical activity, physical capacity and screen time was determined. For associations, the Pearson correlation test was used. Results: There was a negative relationship between screen time in play (p= 0.001; r=-534) and the frequency of screen exposure per week with the level of physical activity (p= 0.000; r=-.748). Screen time for TV and computer due to work or study activities did not have a significant relationship. In the inter-categoryrelationship, it was shown that the greater the hours spent on the computer, the greater the total use of screen hours per day (p= 0.000; r=.917). There were no differences by sex. Conclusion: Screen time, in the game category, is related to a decrease in the levels of physical activity of adolescents.
