Abstract

The aim of this study was to compare biomechanical adaptations during the gait in young people with and without Chronic Low Back Pain (CLBP). Thirty participants were recruited (15 people by group, with CLBP and control group). Using a G-Walk analysis system, the biomechanical variables analyzed included pelvic tilt, obliquity, and rotation, complemented with a Movement Symmetry Index during gait. The results show significant differences in the minimum right pelvic tilt (CLBP group = 16 (6) v. control group = 12 (7.1), p = 0.01) and in the ranges of right and left pelvic tilt, which were lower in the CLBP group (4.2 ± 1.1 v. 6.0 ± 1.8, p = 0.004; 4.4 ± 1.4 v. 6.0 ± 1.7, p = 0.01, respectively). Differences were also observed in the minimum right pelvic rotation and maximum left pelvic rotation (–2.8 (2.8) v. –5.2 (3.3), p = 0.011; 2.9 (2.3) v. 5.2 (3.1), p = 0.006, respectively) and in the range of right pelvic rotation (7.4 ± 2.7 v. 9.2 ± 2.7, p = 0.03). Additionally, the percentages of symmetry for pelvic obliquity and rotation were significantly lower in the CLBP group (obliquity in CLBP group: 92.7 ± 7.2% v. control group: 96.9 ± 2.3 %, p = 0.047; rotation in CLBP group: 90.9 ± 13.3 % v. control group: 97.0 ± 2.7%, p = 0.01). In conclusion, the highlights could suggest pelvic kinematics adaptations associated with CLBP.
